Main expertise
Mihai has significant experience in EU & Competition Law, having worked for 8+ years both as a fully qualified lawyer and competition enforcer on antitrust investigations (both at EU and national level), economic concentrations, complaints, leniency applications, whistle-blower communications with regards to possible antitrust infringements, sector investigations.
His experience with the European Commission as a trainee, visiting ECN official and TAIEX expert, along with his role as competition inspector at the Romanian Competition Council, provides invaluable expertise when assisting clients in antitrust proceedings, compliance audits, competition law trainings and daily legal advice. Additionally, Mihai’s experience representing the Romanian Competition Council in matters involving the European Commission and other EU competition authorities, as well as his work as a competition expert with Republic of Moldova and Ukraine’s competition authorities, significantly enhances his ability to handle multijurisdictional legal issues.
In addition, Mihai has provided legal assistance in corporate matters and due diligence investigations, drafted and reviewed contracts and corporate documents and managed the registration of corporate changes with the Romanian Trade Registry. He has also represented clients before Romanian courts and public authorities, offering legal advice on various commercial and regulatory issues.
Education
Mihai Păun holds a dual education in Economics from the Academy of Economic Studies in Bucharest and in Law from the University of Bucharest. He also earned an LL.M. in International Arbitration from the University of Bucharest and is currently pursuing an Executive Master in Law & AI at Brussels School of Competition. Mihai is a member of the Bucharest Bar.
